Your course of driving lessons will be tailored to suit your needs, as all people learn at different rates of speed. All lessons will start on quiet roads and as your confidence builds, busier traffic conditions will be introduced. We are teaching you to be a “Safe Driver for Life”, not how to pass the practical driving test only. If you can drive safely, you will pass the practical driving test. Lessons are on a one-to-one basis with no car sharing (interpreters excepted), and will last for the full time booked. The length of the driving lesson will be decided between you and your Instructor with a minimum of 1 hour, as any less would be ineffective.
On your first driving lesson, and until you are safe to drive, your driving Instructor will drive you to the quiet road where you will start to learn to drive and then drive you back to your drop off point.
We now have an FAQ list that we hope will help you
answer some of the more common ones.
What do I need to get started?
You need to have your Provisional Driving Licence.
2. How do I get a Provisional driving Licence?
The Provisional Licence is £43.00 by post, on line it is £34.00. You can apply at www.gov.uk/driving-licence-fees or by completing Form D1 from the DVLA or the Post Office who offer a premium checking service. There is No cost to change to a Full Driving licence, when you pass your practical driving test.
3. Do I have to pass the theory before starting to drive?
No not at all, in fact it is beneficial to do both at the same, as they help each other.
4. Do you do intensive courses?
We can, but recommend a calmer and more methodical approach as this will prepare you better.
5. Will I take my test in your car?
Please feel free to contact us and ask any questions or raise any concerns you have. We'll do our best to answer you within 24 hours!
While the Theory Test must be passed before the Practical can be booked, it is a good idea to learn
in the car how to drive at the same time, and you can book on line at www.theory-tests.co.uk
1. The first is a multiple choice of 50 questions covering all aspects of driving from road signs,
to legal requirements. The pass mark is 43 out of 50.
2. The second part is the Hazard Perception test, which is composed of 14 video clips taken
from the front of a car during a real drive. 1 clip is 2 minutes long, all the others are 1 minute long.
The object is to watch the clips and when you spot a hazard starting to develop you click on your
mouse. There is a markable hazard for every minute, and you will score a higher mark out of 5 the
earlier you spot the hazard developing. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.
Your Driving Instructor can help you with this. Why not now log onto Theory Test Pro on
this website and have a practice? All driving lessons can be started or end at work / home / college / station / etc, to help fit in with your life. As this will cover some of the routes that you are most likely to use, it will be of great value to you.
This lasts for approximately 40 minutes, of which 20 minutes is “Independent Drive”. There will be
one driving manoeuvre with possibly the emergency stop. The “Independent Drive” does not mean that you can drive where you want; but you are following a selection of Road Signs to a destination, or following the instructions on a Sat Nav. All the manoeuvres will be taught, and as you are learning to drive a car safely not just pass the practical driving test; very useful manoeuvres such as being able to turn the car around, will be included. The good old 3 Point Turn is no longer in the driving test! Before taking the Practical Driving Test your Instructor will conduct a mock test, usually two weeks before the driving test, with you. This is to give you an idea of what the real test will be like, and also give time to correct anything that shows up.
Here are a few recent people who have passed with Drive Sussex. Are you next? Get in touch if you're based in Brighton, Eastbourne, Shoreham-By-Sea, or Worthing!
Drive Sussex was recommended to me by a friend. I found learning to drive about what I expected. The teaching methods I thought were very good, as I felt I didn't have to rush learning, and I didn't have to move on until I felt I'd learnt it properly. It was very comfortable and I had a good time learning.
He can drive to Uni and work. Good luck with the “Blues and Twos “ training, and hopefully not a too busy New Years Eve.
Congratulations to Karen Cristina of Shoreham-by-Sea. No more bus trips, fighting to get the buggy on!
Congratulations to Olivia Kelsey of Ashurst, Steyning on passing her practical driving test , on at Lancing Driving Test Centre.
